ASSIST (St. Louis Sires Book 3) by Alexandria House

There are some topics that might be triggering to readers. There’s discussions around abandonment, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, manipulation and grooming. It’s handled well, but you should be prepared for those parts of the book.

Where book 2 was a bit of a struggle to get through because of the subjects discussed, book 3 was finished within 24 hours. This was an enjoyable read, not because it didn’t also address difficult topics, but I was better able to connect with the characters and I could see the HEA that was coming for the main characters.

Rapp is 1/3 of the defensive line affectionately called “Southern Comfort” on his majority black NHL team. Hockey has always been his life but he’s been missing “something” lately. He was adopted young and had a loving adoptive mother but he wants to know more about where he’s from. Who are his parents? Why did they leave him? He also wants a family of his own. Sure, he has one with his teammates, but they’re all boo’d up. The only woman who he’s remotely interested in is rapper Bambina but she’s too famous for him.

Bambina is a rich and famous rapper who is also a minority honor of a hockey team. It was in the capacity of “owner” that she first encounters Rapp when he squeals at their first meeting! On their next meeting, she wishes he would come over and talk to her because she catches him staring a time or 2 and she’d be lying if the big man with the long locks and deep voice didn’t pique her interest.

The road to Rapp (aka Orlando) and Bambina (aka Ishmia) getting together is a ride. There’s drama, because of course, but I was thankful it was not of their doing. These are 2, relatively young, adults who have been successful for a long time, have been making money for just as long and are figuring out how to manage 2 completely different careers that they’re passionate about. It’s bumpy but they find their ways back to each other.

What I appreciated most was the honesty that Rapp/Orlando and Bambina/Ishmia had with one another from the beginning. Rapp made it known that he wants marriage with kids and didn’t want to settle for less. Bambina needed someone who was in her corner and willing to support and fight for her. They both found what they needed in each other.

Now, Ms House knows her way around some sexy sexy times and she outdid herself in this book. It was graphic but not obnoxious and beyond passionate!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. I’m actually going to download the novellas that are mentioned at the end of this book that are about 3 characters that we’re introduced to.
