A week ago, a couple friends mentioned they were in a reading rut. Now, I’m always ready to share recommendations and this book was one of them. And, in making my suggestion, I was able to revisit a book that I immediately enjoyed the first time!

I wanted to read this book from the moment I read the summary and I’m thankful that I didn’t delay. It was a joy and delight from start to finish. You will be sucked into this book from the beginning with laughter and sadness.

Hannah is a private bodyguard but she is not having a good month. Not only is she mourning the loss of her mother but her boyfriend dumps her shortly thereafter. What she needs is a distraction and finds it in a new work project. But, instead of traveling to a far-flung location, she’s staying in Texas to protect a handsome reclusive Hollywood star.
•
Jack is a star actor who hasn’t made a movie in a long time for “reasons”. He’s in Texas to spend time with his family after a cancer diagnosis for mom. He doesn’t want a bodyguard but he’s got a stalker that could pose a problem if his location is discovered. He’s convinced he and Hannah will not get along but this is definitely one of those “there’s only 1 bed” tropes!

Hannah and Jack are good together. They learn to be friendly to one another and offer support under stressful conditions. Jack gets someone who might be able to bridge the gap with his family and makes him laugh. Hannah gets to see that there are examples of a healthy, functional family and that sometimes looks are deceiving.

I blew through this book. I could not put it down. The banter is fun, the side characters were entertaining and I truly believed that Hannah and Jack were a promising couple. And, considering that this is a fade to black for the sexy times, I didn’t mind it. Shocking, I know!
