First off, be prepared for misogyny, “alpha” men and degrading language. Knowing that going in will prepare for the shenanigans of this story.

Francesca is the oldest daughter from a Toronto mafia family. She’s a bit of a wild child but has helped raise her sisters since their mother died many years ago. She has plans to attend college now that’s she’s graduated high school, so she is understandably surprised and mortified to hear that she’s betrothed to the son of a mafia king in Italy. She doesn’t want go to Italy, doesn’t want to get married and is not interested in having kids right now.

Fausto, father of her betrothed, doesn’t care about her thoughts and immediately gets her on a plane to Italy. Fausto is called il Diavolo, the Devil. He’s excited to barter the agreement for Francesca as she’s just as beautiful as he was told. She has spark that he thinks will pair well with his son…if only he could stop having inappropriate thoughts about her. He’s convinced she’s too young (18, the same age as his son) but he can’t help believing that she’d be better suited as his mistress instead of his son’s wife.

Their chemistry is off the charts and their sex scenes are ridiculously hot. If anything, while they disagree on quite a bit, they are definitely compatible in the bedrooms. For the most part, I felt like this book is a good example of how a dominant/submissive relationship can be done with respect and care and in a way where everyone leaves satisfied.

However, what happens next is a lot of intentional and unintentional misunderstandings. Francesca is coming to grips on her life in Italy while not giving up on eventually escaping back home, still wanting an education and trying to learn the language. Fausto is unaccustomed to feeling the way he does about a woman he’s having sex with. He genuinely cares for her, is frustrated by her attitude but would do anything for her…until he doesn’t.

As I noted, book 1 ends on a doozy of a cliffhanger. I’m immediately going to download book 2 as I need to know how it ends.
