Ok. I messed up. I didn’t know what this book was about and I OBVIOUSLY ignored the trigger warning page. Never, not ever, should you not read the Trigger Warning page. Now, would I still have read the book? Possible but I was not ready in the slightest. Whew chile, I was NOT!

We meet the characters both dealing with the outcomes of arranged marriages gone wrong. Camilla finds out on the day of her wedding that her fiancée has been cheating. While she knew she was required to remain "clean", she never expected the same of her fiancé. However, she DID expect him to have some decorum and not screw someone else (least of all her bridesmaid and best friend) on their wedding day! Alfonso was in a similar situation where he is expected to marry a woman he does not love but will have a child with for the sake of aligning their families. When he has evidence that she has deceived him, he and Camilla come to an agreement that seems mutually beneficial. What started out as an arranged marriage and a marriage of convenience/alliances morphed into one of mutual understandings. It’s just that those understandings are very dark and the "Beast" within Alfonso needs to come out.

And that is where things take a turn. There is a lot of sex. That is not the issue but it's the KIND of sex that I wasn’t ready for. If you have trouble with BDSM, I can't even begin to tell you what this is if only to say that it's a MUCH MUCH darker kink. There's cutting, blood, denial. It's written to read that both enjoy it. I would not have finished the book if it seemed like it was only benefitting one person. Howsoever, it doesn't make it any easier to read. And again, to be fair, I don’t blame the author. She wrote the story she wanted to write. I just should not have read it. The last couple chapters and the unofficial epilogue? Damn.

It's not bad. Truly it wasn’t. It was just not the book for me and I’m at fault for that. Because, again, damn.
3.5 out of 5 stars/Cautiously recommend but ONLY after reading the trigger warnings
