Witchful Thinking by Celestine Martin

What do you do when you’re a witch who shouldn’t make careless wishes but you REALLY want things to turn around to the positive and exciting? You loop in your sisters and cousin witches, get to wishing and pray for the best!

Lucy is tired of being left behind, as being boring and dependable, and wants some excitement. With her impending 10 year high school reunion coming up, it’s time to shake things up. She didn’t expect to get all the bang for her bucks!

Alex is begrudgingly back in his small town. He’s a wondering merman who hates to be tied down to one place. His fiancée broke up with him for his lack of commitment and he’s recently lost his mojo. He hasn’t been able to take any good pictures or update his socials in months. But as soon as he sees Lucy again, things start to “click”.

The budding relationship between Lucy and Alex is lovely and jumps off the page. It’s not exactly a slow burn (considering they knew each other in high school and had crushes then) but the author takes their time with reintroducing them to each other. You can tell that the attraction is still there but Lucy wonders if it’s just the wish pushing them together and if it’s real. Alex doesn’t want to hurt Lucy and considers leaving before things get too serious might be the way to go.

There is, of course, loads of drama. There is a cousin that’s lost her sense of self, a reunion update that is more than a little inaccurate and meddling neighbors and gnomes.

But, this story is really about Lucy and Alex learning to trust themselves. To believe that they deserve good things. And that staying in one place doesn’t make you boring and uninteresting. And it doesn’t hurt that the sexy sexy times are so tender and lovely.

I saw that the next book is about the cousin and I’m not sure I want to read her story (you’ll understand after reading this one). But, I can appreciate a redemptive arc, so who knows. I might give it a chance as I definitely hope the other 2 sisters get their books as well.\

4 out of 5 stars/Highly recommend
