I savored this book. So much so that I started rereading it again while writing the review. THEN I read certain passages- reread 3. I had to stop myself from doing a 4th reread! Y’all! Hendrix and Maverick had me in a chokehold.

Hendrix is a talent manager whose most recent client won a model reality show. Her other business that champions black women is doing really well with funding, so all is well with her work life. Her mother, however, is having some health challenges which is causing her to South Carolina more often. For a woman that is used to being on top of everything, not being in control is throwing her for a loop. Connecting with Maverick, who experienced a similar health challenge with his grandfather, is a surprising development…and a complication.

Maverick, a recent addition to the “Black Billionaire Club”, recently separated from his girlfriend of 3 years. While at an event with said girlfriend, he meets Hendrix and has an immediate connection. Although officially separated (they’re keeping up appearances for the press), he’s conflicted because he feels a connection with Hendrix and wonders if he’ll ever get the chance to prove that he just wants to be “good to her”.

The Hendrix and Maverick relationship possibility makes for an excellent read. It’s amazing to see Hendrix in all her rich auntie, bad bitch, big black woman energy decide that she’s going to accept Maverick in her life. She’s making the conscious decision to start a relationship with this man whose words water her “dry places”. Maverick didn’t think that he was interested in another relationship but Hendrix surprised him with her strength and vulnerability. He’s found someone who is worthy of all that he has to offer and seems to legitimately want him for things besides money or connections.

Now, Ms Ryan did not skimp on the sexy sexy times and BABEE! There’s tenderness, there’s seduction but there’s also straight nasty talk, vibrators and quickies in the closet at a public event!

And we get to catch up with Yasmen and Soledad and their families? I was beyond pleased. Run, don’t walk, to read this book
5 out of 5 stars/Highly recommend
